Ford plans hot 1.0 Fiesta EcoBoost 05 | 03 | 2014

FORD HAS CONFIRMED it's planning a 138bhp version of the 1.0-litre Ford Fiesta EcoBoost: but the hot version is unlikely to carry the famous ST badge.

Primary engine development and testing is understood to have already been completed, but as yet the company hasn't decided on a launch date for the newcomer.

In base terms, the current 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine produces 99bhp in the Fiesta. The current Fiesta ST, by comparison, pumps out 180bhp from its 1.6-litre EcoBoost petrol unit.

But though the new 1.0 EcoBoost hot Fiesta won't get the ST badge, Ford confirmed it's planning to revise its current Focus ST.

As part of the upgrade — which will include revised styling, and a 7% improvement on fuel efficiency — the current 2.0-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine will receive an, as yet unspecified increase in power: the current Focus ST gets 247bhp.

There will also be a new diesel version of the ST. Capable of hitting 62mph from standstill in eight-seconds, the 182bhp powerplant will also emit just 114g/km of CO2.
