Mitchell targets British GT finale winposted in GT18 | 10 | 2023

LAMBORGHINI FACTORY DRIVER, Scot Sandy Mitchell, heads to Donington Park in Leicestershire this weekend for the final two-hour race in the Intelligent Money British GT Championship. And the 23-year-old from Forfar is targeting another top-three finish in the title race.

“We’re just 13 points off third place in the championship, so finishing in the top three again at the end of the season is my No 1 goal,” Mitchell, who will partner Shaun Balfe in the No 78 Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo2, prepared by Barwell Motorsport, stated. “Obviously we’ll need the results of other drivers to work in our favour, but we showed earlier this season that the Lamborghini suits Donington when we took pole position for the race back in May.

“It’s a fast circuit, especially down through the Craner Curves. It’s one of the most exhilarating sections of track anywhere in Europe and the circuit allows us to really maximise the strengths of the car.” (Related: Mitchell denied third Silverstone 500 win by 1.3s)

And Mitchell, personally backed by Huntly-based Black Bull Scotch Whisky, Tunnocks, Lamborghini Edinburgh, Upper Dysart and Alan Davie Transport, is eager to finish the season with his second race win of the year.

“We won the first one-hour race at Snetterton back in June,” the 2020 British GT champion continued, “and followed that up with a podium finish at Portimao in July. To bag our second win of the year, and our first in a two-hour race would be the perfect way to end the season.

“After finishing fifth last time out a Brands Hatch, we head into the final race knowing we won’t lose any additional time serving a success penalty at our pitstop, so that’s a bonus.

“I know Shaun and all the crew in the Barwell team are determined to finish the season on a high, and we’ll be doing everything we can to finish on the top step of the podium.”
