Wylie clinches double GT Cup titlesposted in GT23 | 10 | 2023

SCOT ROSS WYLIE (pictured right above) won overall GT Cup Championship honours for the first time despite the Dumfries & Galloway driver missing four crucial races.

Wylie, the 32-year-old from Thornhill, and co-driver Paul Bailey finished more than 50-points ahead of their nearest pursuers in the outright title race, and a staggering 185pts to the fore in the GTO category which the Scot also won in 2021.

In the GTO category, Wylie claimed nine podiums, including six wins, and four class fastest laps in a variety of GT cars despite missing races due to clashing Porsche Carrera Cup GB commitments in which Wylie finished a creditable second in the Pro-Am category. In the 10 races Ross contested, he drove three different cars prepared by Kendall Developments: a Brabham BT62 Competition plus a Mercedes AMG GT3 and latterly a Lamborghini Huracán, Wylie never having previously driven the Merc or the Lambo.

“I’m absolutely delighted to not only have claimed the GTO title for the second time in three years, but the outright GT Cup Championship ‘crown’ for the very first time,” Wylie said. “It was a pleasure sharing the various cars with Paul again, while the Kendall team always provided both of us with super competitive cars throughout the season.

“The season saw us having to jump between the Brabham at the start of the season, to the Mercedes briefly and then ultimately the Lamborghini. It was challenging having to switch cars in the series, as they have totally different characteristics.

“Additionally, I was having to acclimatise to these cars having raced my Glenturret Porsche in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB championship throughout the year. But that in itself was an enjoyable experience for me and makes me especially proud of what I achieved this season.”

Wylie will collect his silverware at Awards ceremonies for both the GT Cup and Porsche championships in the coming weeks.
