Vauxhall introduces Adam 11 | 07 | 2012

VAUXHALL HAS RELEASED details and the first images of its new Adam (see more official images of the new Vauxhall Adam). The strangely-named car, which enters showrooms in January, will be available to order after it's officially unveiled at the Paris Motor Show in September (watch our video of the new Adam).

Prices for Vauxhall's new supermini? They've yet to be confirmed, but it's believed the entry-level model will be around £11,000, which would make it almost a grand cheaper than the base-spec Mini.

Vauxhall is also pitching the Adam directly against the Citroen’s DS3 and Fiat 500, and the company believes its claim that drivers will have access to more than one million customisation options will help attract new buyers.

LED daytime running lights will be one option and customers can choose from three trims, Jam (which Vauxhall describes as fashionable and colourful”, Glam (supposedly elegant and sophisticated) and Slam (racy and sporty).

If you're so inclined, you can also order your Adam with an an LED-lit starlight roof trim in the headlining.

I know: why would you? But then again, why would a car manufacturer ever call a model Adam?

There's also a Bluetooth infotainment system — which will be both Apple iOS and Android compatible — and will come with a 7in colour touch screen display.

Also available as an option will be the Advanced Park Assist II system: the SAdam will be the first Vauxhall to offer the system.

From launch there will be the choice of three ecoFLEX four-cylinder petrol engines: a 68bhp 1.2-litre, or two 1.4s with either 85bhp or 98bhp. Optional Start/Stop is available across the range and all three will be mated to a five-speed manual gearbox.

Vauxhall's new next-generation small petrol engine, mated to a six-speed transmission, will follow later next year.

“No other car in this segment can be individualised as much as Adam because we are offering virtually unlimited exterior/interior colour, fabric and kit combination choices," Mark Adams, designer of the Adam and Vauxhall/Opel’s vice president of design, said. "It’s very unlikely that you’ll find two identical Adams out there.”
