Black magic for Porsche 911 and Boxster 26 | 05 | 2015

PORSCHE HAS UNVEILED a new limited edition of both the 911 Carrera and Boxster: the Black Edition. Not surprisingly, their core facet is the fact they're … well, black!

The 911 Black Edition — available as a coupĂ© or open-top, and in two- or four-wheel drive — is powered by the 350hp 3.4-litre flat-six as fitted in the current generation of the iconic sportscar.

Porsche has squeezed stunning 20in 911 Turbo alloys under the Black's arches, while LED headlights with Porsche Dynamic Light System Plus (PDLS+) also come as standard.

Inside the all-black cabin, there's heated leather sports seats, plus a powerful Bose Surround Sound System. The spec's completed by a telephone module, plus Park Assist front and rear (with reversing camera).

If you fancy the Black Edition Boxster, this too is essentially entry-spec, though that phrase does sound rather demeaning given it's powered by Porsche's impressive 265hp 2.7-litre flat-six.

You'll not be surprised to learn that both the folding roof and rollover protection bar are black, while — as with the 911 — the Boxster is shod with 20in alloys, in this case Carrera Classics.

The Boxster also gets the benefit of a standard-fit wind deflector, PDLS (no Plus) with bi-Xenon lights, dual-zone air conditioning, heated seats and a Sound Package Plus audio set-up.

Worth highlighting, both the 911 Carrera and Boxster Black Editions also get Porsche Communication Management (PCM) with satnav, auto-dimming rear-view mirrors, rain sensors, cruise control and Sport Design steering wheels. all-in-all, an enticing package.

On sale now in Scotland, prices start at £46,164 for the Black Edition Boxster, with the 911 starting at £75,074 for a Carrera 2 CoupĂ© and rising to £86,125 for a Carrera 4 Cabriolet.
