Porsche reveals new Cayenne GTS 06 | 11 | 2014

PORSCHE HAS ADDED a revised version of the sporty GTS, plus a new entry-level model to its Cayenne range. The SUV range now starts at £49,576.

Powered by a naturally aspirated 3.6-litre V6 engine producing 296bhp, the new entry model hits 62mph in 7.7 seconds and continues to a top speed of 143mph.

According to Porsche, it'll return 30.7mpg and emit 215g/km of CO2: these figures show an improvement of 2.2mpg and 21g/km respectively on the old entry-level Cayenne.

But it's the new £72,523 GTS — which follows on from the recently revealed 911 Carrera GTS, plus the Cayman GTS and Boxster GTS models unveiled earlier this year — which is the headline grabber.

Power comes from a 434bhp 3.6-litre twin-turbocharged V6 engine, which delivers 20bhp more than the previous V8-engined GTS.

Capable of hitting 62mph from standstill in 5.2secs — it drops another 0.1s if you fit the optional Sport Chrono pack — the Cayenne GTS has a top speed of 162mph.

The newcomer also benefits from a sportier ride thanks to updates to Porsche's Active Suspension Management (PASM): coincidentally, the new GTS has also been lowered a further 20mm.

It's also got enhanced stopping power, being fitted with the 380mm diameter brake discs at the front and 358mm at the back from the faster and more powerful Cayenne Turbo.

Eagle-eyed Porsche fans will also spot the subtle styling tweaks. The new GTS's front-end design has been borrowed from the Cayenne Turbo, plus more aggressive styling for the side sills and wheel arches. It also sits proudly on 20in alloys.

Though both cars won't make their first official public debut until the LA Motor Show later this month, order books in Scotland are already open.
