Mazda to unveil special MX-5 18 | 06 | 2014

MAZDA WILL UNVEIL a 25th anniversary edition of the iconic MX-5 at the Goodwood Festival of Speed before going on sale across Scotland at the start of August.

Mazda is building 1000 individually numbered examples of the anniversary model, and 750 are bound for the UK. The car is based on the top Sport Tech Nav trim level of the 2.0-litre roadster coupé.

Power for the special editions comes from Mazda's 2.0-litre, 16-valve, 158bhp unit mated to a short-throw six-speed manual transmission. That means the car's capable of sprinting from 0-62mph in 7.9sec and continues on to a top speed of 136mph.

Car No1 in the production run will be on show at Goodwood next weekend, along with a heritage display looking back on the MX-5, which was first introduced in 1989.

As you'd expect, the new special edition is packed with additional goodies unique to the car, and not available elsewhere in the MX-5 range.

Inside the cabin you get off-white leather seats – which come resplendent with a 25th Anniversary logo and stitching – and door trims, special stainless kickplates, and aluminium pedals,. Eleswhere there's 17in gunmetal grey alloy wheels and Bilstein dampers on the manual-transmission version. The UK cars also get a 6.1-inch touchscreen navigation system.

Colours? Well, you can have it in any colour you like … as long as it's metallic red, with contrasting black A-pillars and door mirrors.
