New Mazda2 gets SkyActiv 12 | 06 | 2014

THE NEW MAZDA2, which will enters Scottish showrooms early in 2015, will include a new SkyActiv 1.5-litre clean diesel engine.

The new 103bhp SkyActiv-D 1.5 16-valve, direct-injection unit shares much with the 2.2-litre oil burner currently found in the CX-5, Mazda6 and Mazda3. The new model will go on sale first in Japan.

Though Mazda has yet to release performance and fuel figures for the combination, it expects the newly-packaged supermini to achieve the best fuel economy of any combustion engine-powered vehicle available in Japan, excluding hybrids and microcars.

Expect it also to include both both six-speed automatic and manual transmission versions, plus the fuel-saving i-stop stop-start and i-sloop brake-energy regeneration systems.
