Knockhill goes electric 17 | 01 | 2014

KNOCKHILL HAS TAKEN a significant step towards boosting electric vehicles in Scotland by installing its own EV charging point.

The initiative coincides with Scotland’s National Motor Sport Centre celebrating 40 years of motor sport action at the Fife circuit.

The charging point — located near Kinnairds Restaurant and the Knockhill Karting Centre at the circuit — is part of Transport Scotland’s national campaign for a network of points throughout Scotland.

And the new charging point will ensure that anyone attending any of the major motor sport events at the circuit in an electric car can be guaranteed a full charge when they leave: thus eliminating concerns over mileage range.

But just as significantly, the charging station will also be available free-to-use for any electric vehicle owner any day of the year when the circuit is open.

The first customer to use the charging station was Gordon Malcolm, Eastern BMW’s i sales manager (pictured), with his BMW i3 demonstrator.

“The BMW i3 is the perfect car to use the Knockhill charging point first as the BMW i brand stands for visionary vehicles, inspiring design and a new understanding of premium, defined by sustainability," Stuart Gray, Knockhill events and marketing director, said.

"The new BMW i3 is an innovative experience and exhilarating too, and a near silent driving experience.

"Knockhill has a long history of 'green' measures. All our Subaru rally cars and go-karts are LPG, our safety lights are solar, and all our buildings are heated by building LPG too.

"We also promote and train hundreds of drivers a year on safer and economic driving skills via our Centre for Driving Excellence, so going green is now cool with the likes of the BMW i3.”
