Lambo Huracan: new details 28 | 02 | 2014

LAMBORGHINI HAS ISSUED new details and images of its new Huracan supercar, the replacement for the Gallardo. And the newcomer will utilise a pioneering new type of hybrid carbonfibre and aluminum construction (see more official photos of the new Lamborghini Huracan).

Due to be revealed in the metal for the first time at next week's Geneva Motor Show, the Huracan is powered by a new 602bhp, naturally-aspirated 5.2-litre V10.

Mated to a new design of seven--speed dual clutch gearbox — no manual opt is available — the power is delivered to all four wheels resulting in a 0-62mph time of 3.2secs. That eclipses that of the Gallardo LP560-4 by 0.5s.

The impressive figures continue. It hits 124mph from standstill in 9.9secs and carries on to a top speed of "more than 200mph".

Fuel economy? Lamborghini says it will return 22.6mpg — an improvement from the 19.2mpg of the Gallardo automatic — and emit 290g/km of CO2, an improvement of 61g/km.

Due on sale in Scotland before the end of the year, the Huracan will cost around £188,000 when it enters the Lamborghini Edinburgh showroom.

While the exterior of the Huracan has been softened — at least when compared to the Aventador — the quality of the interior is a big step forward from the Gallardo. While a fule range of customisable options will be available, the car comes with Nappa leather and Alcantara trim and upholstery as standard.

There's also a configurable TFT instrument panel (which allows the whole screen to be dominated by a sat-nav map). And the steering wheel in the new Huracan is fitted with finger tip controls for the wipers, washers, high beam and indicators. The big result of that approach is that by removing the stalks, Lamborghini has been able to fit bigger gearshift paddles.
