Vauxhall's new 170mph supercar 07 | 11 | 2012

VAUXHALL'S 170 MPH SUPERCAR contender, the Insignia VXR is being relaunched: and it's almost £4000 cheaper than the original.

Now badged ‘Insignia VXR SuperSport’, it's had its speed limiter removed and now costs a rather mouthwatering £29,995.

At the moment, the VXR SuperSport has no real, affordable four-door saloon rivals when it comes to supercar performance figures. Its closest rival is the 172mph, two-seater Cayman S, and it'll set you back 48 grand.

The only other comparable four-seater is BMW's M5, but it costs £73,000, and only does 155mph.

The VXR SuperSport, powered by a 320bhp, 2.8-litre turbocharged V6 engine, sprints from zero to 60mph in just 5.6sec.

Fitted with adaptive damping and the sophisticated HiPer strut suspension at the front end — in place of the conventional MacPherson struts fitted to mainstream Insignias — it's identified by the blue ‘Brembo’ lettering on the brake calipers and a recalibrated speedo.

If you fancy one, Scotland's VXR dealerships have their order books at the ready.
