Lambo lifts wraps from Aventador SV 03 | 03 | 2015

LAMBORGHINI HAS LIFTED the wraps from a new range-topping Aventador Super Veloce (SV). Lighter and more powerful than others on the Italian supercar's range, the SV is powered by a 740bhp, 6.5-litre V12 engine, hits 62mph from standstill in 2.8secs, and carries on to a max of more than 217mph.

Lamborghini describes the new LP750-4 SV as as the “most pure incarnation of a Lamborghini to date”. Boasting a more extreme look, the car has a new overhauled chassis and a high-revving naturally aspirated V12 engine.

It also benefits from extensive use of carbonfibre, which helps reduce the weight by 50kg over the standard 1575kg Aventador LP700-4 coupé on which it is based.

Boasting 49bhp more than the 'standard' Aventador, the SV also cuts 0.1s off the 0-62mph sprint. The power-to-weight ratio is rated at 485bhp per tonne.

Fitted with the same seven-speed automated manual gearbox carried over from the standard Aventador, the SV gets a newly-engineered exhaust system which — according to Lamborghini — creates a wide variety of “music”.

Fitted with the Haldex permanent four-wheel drive system, the SV also gets a self-locking differential on the rear axle and an electronic differential lock on the front axle, which links in with the ESP system.

There are also three modes — Strada, Sport and Corsa — in the SV's Drive Select system, which alters the engine, transmission and differential responses, and the handling and steering characteristics.

Extensive use of carbonfibre in the engine bay cover, rear wing, wing panels, interior door panels, bucket sports seats and air intakes has helped shaved weight off the car.

And while the SV is fitted with forged centre-locking lightweight alloys finished in matt black pain — measuring 20in in diameter at the front and 21in at the rear — there's no denying it's the large rear wing which is the most striking feature.

Capable of being manually adjusted to three different positions, the rear wing contributes to the SV’s significant increase in both aerodynamic efficiency and downforce over the standard Aventador, without increasing drag.

Although no official price has yet been released for the UK, it's likely to cost around £295,000 … that's £30,000 more than the base Aventador.
