First glimpse of new Hyundai i20 01 | 08 | 2014

THIS IS OUR first look at the all-new Hyundai i20 which will be officially unveiled in paris in October, before going on-sale across Scotland next year. It'll go head-to-head with the likes of the Ford Fiesta and VW Polo.

Designed at Hyundai's European design centre in Rüsselsheim, Germany, this official design rendering of Hyundai's B-segment model features the latest evolution of the brand's design philosophy, dubbed Fluidic Sculpture 2.0.

What's immediately obvious is the front of the new i20 features a new interpretation of Hyundai's familiar hexagonal grille. Look closely and you'll see there's also a new thin horizontal strip connecting the headlamps.

At the back of the car, there's a new 'wraparound' rear window which blends into the C-pillars, which are dark-coloured to accentuate the car's side profile.

According to Hyundai, the new car's long bonnet and sculpted body sides helps create a more "powerful stance".

The interior of the new i20 can accommodate five passengers, and it's expected Hyundai will significantly raise the cabin's fit and finish.

It's also expected the new car will utilise powertrains carried over from the current model. These will include a 1.2-litre petrol with 84bhp and 88lb/ft and a 1.1-litre CRDi diesel with 74bhp and 133lb/ft.

Expect also two variants of the 1.4CRDi, delivering 99bhp and 101lb/ft and 89bhp and 162lb/ft respectively.
