Toyota reveals spec of Rav EV 10 | 05 | 2012

TOYOTA HAS GIVEN an official debut to its all-new Rav4 EV. Shown at the Electric Vehicle Symposium in Los Angeles, the Toyota Rav4 EV will go on sale in the States this summer with prices starting at $49,800, that's around £31,000 (see more official photos of the Toyota Rav4 EV). Toyota plans to sell 2600 examples over the next three years.

Toyota says the new front-wheel drive electric Rav has a range of 100 miles from its 152bhp Tesla-developed powertrain. Charging the battery fully from a 240-volt charging station takes six hours.

Reassuringly, Toyota has given the car's battery pack an eight-year/100,000 mile warranty.

The car also comes with two driving modes, Sport and Normal. In Normal mode it covers the 0-60mph sprint in 8.6sec and will hit 85mph flat out. Flick it into Sport, and the 0-60mph time drops to 7.0secs, and the maximum increases to 100mph. Probably fair to assume battery range reduces accordingly.

The Rav EV also comes with its own styling cues. Outside there's LED headlights and the choice of three colours: white, blue or silver, while inside it gets an eight-inch touch screen (for sat-nav, telematics and EV drive information), plus Bluetooth, USB and iPod connectivity.
