Toyota's new GT 86 to cost £25k 06 | 02 | 2012

TOYOTA'S IMPRESSIVE NEW GT 86 sportscar will have a starting price of £24,995 when it goes on sale in the UK in June.

While Toyota dealers across Scotland have already opened their order books for the 197bhp head-turner, Toyota has yet to reveal exact specifications for the car.

What is known, however, is the rear-drive 2+2 coupe will be powered by 2.0-litre powerplant, with the choice of either a six-speed manual or an automatic 'box. A limited-slip differential is standard, and it will ride on 17in alloys.

Performance figures? Expect the GT 86 to cover the standstill to 60mph sprint in around 7.0secs, and have a restricted limit of 155mph.

According to Toyota, the fact the GT 86 is 4240mm long, 1775mm wide and 1285mm tall make it the most compact four-seater car in the world.

And in addition to the fact it has an ultra-low centre of gravity — rated at just 475mm — the car's powertrain and driving position have been set as low and as far back as possible to optimise balance. The result is a 53/47 weight distribution.

The Toyota looks to be something of a bargain. Subaru, which has its own version of the GT 86, badged the BRZ, is expected to cost as much as £5000 more than the Toyota.
