Citroen's C1 ducks under 100g/km 05 | 01 | 2012

CITROEN'S FACELIFTED C1 has dipped under the psychological 100g/km Co2 emissions for the first time. This is the car's final facelift ahead of the all-new C1 next year.

French engineers have tweaked the 67bhp 1.0-litre three-cylinder engine, resulting in CO2 emissions of 99g/km (down from 103g/km) and combined economy of 65.7mpg (up from 62.8mpg) for the C1 1.0i variant mated to a manual gearbox.

This latest C1, which now ducks below the London Congestion Charge CO2 limit, is also available with an Electronic Gearbox System complete with steering-mounted paddle controls. This EGS version delivers 62.8 mpg and emits 104g/km of CO2.

The facelifted version benefits from a new front bumper — which houses fog lights and LED daytime running lights — a shorter bonnet and the addition of LED daytime running lights, plus new 14in wheels.

While the vertical design LED lights mimic those seen on the DS3 and C4 Aircross, there's also an uprated CD audio system which is integrated with a Bluetooth system and USB socket.

The EGS models benefit from a redesigned leather steering wheel, while manual gearbox versions get a revised gearstick.

Power steering settings have also been changed, and shock absorbers revised for improved low-speed agility and ride comfort.

The full spec of the facelifted car will not be confirmed until it arrives in Scottish dealerships in April.
