VW's new Golf GTi cabrio 07 | 03 | 2012

IF YOU FANCY the new VW Golf GTi Cabrio, you'll need to wait until July before you can nip into your nearest Scottish dealership to place your order. First deliveries are scheduled for September, with prices expected to nudge just over £27,000 (see more official photos of the new VW Golf GTi Cabrio).

The new Golf GT Cabrio was unveiled at Geneva, complete with its hydraulically operated cloth roof which can be opened in 9.5secs. It can be also be operated up to speeds of 18mph.

The features of the GTi cabrio mimic those of the standard GTi. You get a red-rimmed radiator grille, GTI bumpers, rear diffuser and 17in ‘Monza’ alloys, which are wrapped in 225/45 rubber. There's also tartan sports seats and a leather-trimmed steering wheel

And it's pretty versatile. Fold the roof down, and the Golf GTi soft-top's boot can swallow a class-leading 250 litres; a Mini convertible musters exactly half this figure.

VW’s most powerful and Golf GTi convertible to date, its 207bhp will take the car from standstill to 62mph in 7.3secs, before going on to hit 147mph.

And while the hardtop Golf GTi returns 38.7mpg and 170g/km CO2, the cabrio delivers 37.2mpg and 177g/km.
