Toyota Aygo previewed 03 | 03 | 2014

TOYOTA HAS 'LEAKED' images of its new Aygo, 24 hours before its first official appearance tomorrow at the Geneva Motor Show (see more images of the all-new Toyota Aygo).

It's not difficult to miss the fact Toyota has given its city car — produced in a joint venture program with Peugeot and Citroën — a larger, more prominent front grille with a large central badge.

What's also instantly noticeable is that the car boasts thin DRL lights alongside its more shapely headlight cluster. And lower down, within the front bumper, there are more diagonal lights alongside round fog lamps.

New side-skirts run the length of the Aygo's body, leading to a rear-end which has been 'pimped-up' with a new stylised rear bumper and large rear lights.

Toyota designers have clearly taken the approach that the new Aygo has to stand out from the city car competition, in what is rapidly becoming a crowded marketplace.

It's understood the new Aygo will be available in both three- and five-door form. Don't be surprised if you also see a version fitted with a retractable fabric roof: it'll definitely be available on the new Peugeot 108 and Citroen C1.

Toyota, sensibly, has also lifted the quality within the new Aygo's cabin. And the dashboard incorporates the option of an integrated infotainment system.

Engines? Expect the current range of three-cylinder engines to be retained: the Japanese manufacturer is also likely to opt for an all-petrol range, ditching any thoughts of a small, expensive diesel.
