Aston Martin SUV moves closer 25 | 03 | 2014

ASTON MARTIN IS set to become the latest luxury car maker to produce a large SUV, following news that it has raised £165 million in fresh funding.

The money is likely to fuel production of the Lagonda SUV, which would see it go head-to-head with the new Bentley SUV. Both threaten to create a new battle for tasteless design and unnecessary existence.

According to Aston’s chief financial officer, Hanno Kirner, the new cash supply will “provide a solid foundation for the execution of our future product plan”.

Ok: so that, more than likely, means Aston will reignite its plans to build the Lagonda SUV, which has recently been bought back to the front of Aston Martin's model plans thanks to its parts sharing deal with Mercedes-Benz.

And with recent speculation surrounding the fact Mercedes is seriously considering buying Aston Martin completely — the German giant already owns 5% — it's likely the new Lagonda SUV would be based on the Mercedes GL.

Just what the world needs: a new car for multi-millionaire Premiership footballers!
