Vauxhall Adam ready to Rock 19 | 02 | 2014

VAUXHALL HAS REVEALED the production version of its Adam Rocks crossover. The first Vauxhall in the Adam range to receive an all-new 1.0-litre three-cylinder engine, the Rock gets rugged anthracite-coloured body cladding and a full-length sunroof.

Scheduled to make its full public debut at next month's Geneva Motor Show — 12 months after the concept car with the same name was unveiled — the Rock sits 15mm higher than standard Adam models. It also gets revised and retuned dampers, springs and rear suspension geometry.

And for the first time in the Adam range, a full-length electrically folding canvas roof is offered. Constructed from neoprene sandwiched between canvas, the three-layer roof folds onto the C-pillars in five seconds.

The Rock's rugged looks are enhanced by the addition of extended wheelarches, capable of housing either 17in or 18in alloys. And just for good measure, there's also silver skid plates, a new exhaust trim a number of new paint colours and three roof colours.

Inside the Rock, buyers can select from two interior trims: either the one lifted straight from the concept vehicle — which includes peanut-coloured door panels, steering wheel and gear and handbrake gaitors — or, alternatively, dark brown with blue stitching.

When the car arrives in Scotland in the summer, buyers will be able to choose from three engines, delivering total of five outputs.

The range is led by the new 1.0-litre three-cylinder Ecotec flagship engine is available in two outputs:, 87bhp and 113bhp. There's also a 69bhp 1.2-litre unit and a 1.4 with outputs of 86 and 99bhp.

Though pieces won't be confirmed until closer to the car's launch, the Adam Rock retains the option of Apple and Android-compatible smartphone connectivity. And for £275, you can have Vauxhall's Intelilink system — a 7in touchscreen through which a range of apps can be downloaded and operated — fitted.
