Honda teases Civic Type R 12 | 02 | 2014

HONDA HAS PREVIEWED its new Civic Type R with this sketch, ahead of the car's official unveiling at next month's Geneva Motor Show.

Scheduled to be launched early in 2015, the design team — not really surprisingly, given the evidence of the sketch — describes it as a "racing car for the road".

The car is dominated by a rather outlandish rear wing which has been incorporated into the Civic’s prominent tail-light clusters. And smoothly integrated vented wheel arch extensions neatly accommodate the much wider tracks.

The rear-end also displays a large diffuser-style insert in the rear bumper, which houses twin dual exhausts. The designers have also cleverly extended the matt black section of rear bumper down the sides of the car and into the sill extensions.

The new Civic Type R — which is expected to be built mostly of pressed aluminium panels — is powered by a newly-developed turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol engine. Honda engineers are doing their best to wring out more than 300bhp from the power unit.

Fitted with a six-speed manual gearbox as standard, the Type R will also come with adaptive rear dampers as standard.
