Nissan's new self-cleaning car 28 | 04 | 2014

THE DAYS OF washing your car could just be about to disappear forever. Nissan has unveiled what is says is the world's first self-cleaning car technology: and it's not an exceedingly late April Fool!

Nissan believes the product — a super-hydrophobic and oleophobic paintwork — could be launched as an aftermarket product.

Used in this example on a white Nissan Note, bosses from the Japanese manufacturer plan to test the car in a variety of conditions over the coming months. Following that, they will decide whether to make it an aftermarket option for its cars.

The paint — dubbed Ultra-Ever Dry technology creates a protective layer of air between the paint and the environment. According to Nissan, the paint stops dirty marks created by road spray and standing water from clinging to the car.

Recently, Nissan also trialled a 'self-cleaning' coating on its rear-view camera systems. That technology used water and compressed air to keep the camera lens free of dirt.
