Jaguar plans Club Sport F-Type 02 | 04 | 2014

HOT ON THE HEELS of Jaguar launching its stunning F-Type Coupe, company bosses have teased fans with the prospect of a road-legal lightweight Club Sport version of the car.

Though Jaguar's senior bosses won't go on record with the plan, it's understood the new F-Type Coupe would weigh in at 1465kg — that's around 200kg lighter than the standard car — and could sprint from standstill to 62mph in less than 3.5 seconds.

Of course, in shedding such weight, there are likely to be compromises in the cabin, with a more austere feel, thanks to its racing-style carbon-fibre seats. The Club Sport would also benefit from more aggressive aerodynamics and lightweight carbon-fibre panels.

Annual sales of around 500 units would be required to make the car a feasible model.

It's also likely the car would be powered by Jaguar's 542bhp 5.0-litre supercharged V8 engine. The mighty powerplant delivers 680Nm of torque from just 2500rpm. But with the reduction in body weight, Jaguar might instead opt for a V6.
