Porsche teases new Macan 14 | 10 | 2013

AHEAD OF ITS DEBUT at the LA Motor Show on November 20, Porsche has released a teaser image of its new Macan. When it goes on sale across Scotland next year, the SUV will go head-to-head with the Range Rover Evoque and BMW X3.

The Macan's final production styling clearly highlights strong 911 cues and follows the sporty lines of the Evoque, rather than being a full-on SUV. And naturally, it shares a common design language with its bigger brother, the Cayenne.

And Porsche is being aggressive in terms of its sales forecasts. The German manufacturer believes the compact SUV could hit 75,000 units per year, making it the company's biggest seller.

The Macan, which will start around £38,000, will be powered by a range of V6 engines. The entry-levels will be powered by two four-cylinder engines, the first time four-cylinder powerplants have appeared in a Porsche since the 968 in 1995.

At the other end of the scale, the range-topper will be a 3.6-litre V6 direct-injection turbocharged petrol engine offering 395bhp and 406lb ft of torque. Expect it to deliver 30.7mpg and emit 216g/km CO2

In addition, the range will include a 220bhp 2.0-litre petrol which Porsche has hinted should be capable of covering the 0-62mph sprint in 7.5sec, and continue to a top speed of 143mph. The entry-level diesel will be a 190bhp 2.0-litre turbo unit.

The range though will be further enhanced by the inclusion of a 295bhp 3.6-litre V6 in the S, and a 250bhp 3.0-litre V6 in the Diesel S, which will return a claimed 46.3mpg and emit 159g/km of CO2. Porsche will also add a hybrid variant.

The Macan will be officially launched early next year, with first cars arriving with customers by summer 2014.
