Fiat unveils '1957 Edition'  22 | 11 | 2013

FIAT HAS LAUNCHED a special edition of its 500 to — rather strangely — celebrate 57 years of the Cinquecento, which was launched in 1957: both are pictured.

Not surprisingly labelled the 1957 Edition, it's powered by the 1.4-litre MultiAir engine mated to a five-speed manual gearbox. As an option, a six-speed auto 'box is available.

According to Fiat, the car — which features a driver-selectable Sport mode, which re-maps the throttle — will return 31mpg in the city and up to 40mpg on the motorway.

Featuring classic colour schemes aimed at giving it a vintage look, the 1957 Edition features bespoke leather with new stitching, new interior door panels and a bespoke leather-wrapped steering wheel. Thankfully, the car retains its modern sound system.

Outside, the limited edition gets retro-design 16in alloys with large centre caps. There's also a wide chromed lip at the front, sports suspension and performance tyres. In a nice touch, the car also gets historic Fiat badges.

The bad news is, it's not going to be available in Scotland or the rest of the UK. It does, however. go on sale in the US next Spring.
