McLaren reveals P1 price 27 | 02 | 2013

McLAREN'S NEW 903bhp P1 hybrid hypercar, which will be unveiled at next week's Geneva Motor Show, will cost £866,000 when it goes on sale in March (see more official photos of the new McLaren P1).

In a commitment to ensuring exclusivity, production is limited to 375 units. First deliveries will begin before the end of the year.

The P1 will be on sale at three dealerships in the UK through Sytner in Manchester, Rybrook in Birmingham and Jardine Motors in London.

    Powered by a 727bhp version of McLaren's mid-mounted 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 petrol, and 176bhp McLaren-built electric motor, the resulting 903bhp gives the P1 a 0-62mph time of under three seconds.

With an electronically-limited top speed of 218mph, the combined powertrain emits 200g/km CO2.

The production car stays very close to the styling of the original concept which was shown at the Paris Motor Show.

According to McLaren, the P1 will be the first car to truly deliver an F1 experience on the road.

It's fitted with two flaps ahead of the front wheels which can increase downforce to 600kg when driven at speed, plus there's an automatically deployed rear-mounted wing.

An F1 derived drag-reduction system (DRS) and Instant Power Assist System (IPAS), which offer an increase in straight-line speed and a boost of power, are also fitted as standard.

In electric-only mode, the McLaren P1 can be driven up to 30mph over a short range of 12 miles.

“The P1 is designed to be driven to a racing circuit with great levels of comfort and refinement,” McLaren Automotive managing director, Antony Sheriff, said.

“It can then to be used on the racing circuit where it will offer an experience matched only by purpose-built racing cars.

“Our aim is not necessarily to be the fastest in absolute top speed, but to be the quickest and most rewarding series production road car on a circuit. This is the true test of a supercar’s all-round ability and a much more important technical statement.”
