All-new Golf starts at £16,330 05 | 10 | 2012

THE ALL-NEW VW Golf MkVII will start at £16,330 for the entry-level base 1.2-litre TSI S model when it enters Scottish showrooms on January 7 next year. The range-topping DSG equipped 2.0TDI will set you back £24,625. Order books open on October 18.

While the launch models will include the three and five-door S, SE and GT spec Golfs, the range will be supplemented later with the addition of GTI and Bluemotion models later in 2013.

From launch there's a choice of four petrol and two diesel engines: all come with a fuel saving stop-start system as standard.

The two 1.2TSI petrol versions – in 84bhp and 104bhp – start the range, and will cost up to £18,811 in DSG equipped, five-door form.

    All-new VW Golf GTI

The most popular petrol engine version in the UK, the 1.4TSI, starts at £17,501. Available in either 120bhp or 138bhp forms, the more powerful unit features Active Cylinder Technology (ACT), which cuts two of the four cylinders when not under heavy load to improve fuel economy. According to VW, 60.1mpg is possible on the combined cycle.

Diesel lovers will have to stump up £18,955 for the entry-level 104bhp 1.6TDI. The range topping 148bhp 2.0TDI will set you back £21,305 in SE and GT trims only.

There's a choice of five and six-speed manual gearboxes, and six and seven-speed DSG, depending on model.

Standard spec is attractive, with entry-level cars coming with seven airbags, ESP, DAB radio and air-con. SE models get rain-sensitive wipers, 16in alloys, a multi-function steering wheel and brushed stainless steel interior trim.

Step up to the range-topping GT and you get 17in alloys, front fog lights, tinted glass, gloss black interior trim, a 5.8inch touchscreen sat-nav and media system, and Alcantara sports seats.
