VW Amarok gets BlueMotion 07 | 11 | 2012

VOLKSWAGEN'S GO-ANYWHERE pick-up truck, the Amarok, now has the added advantage of BlueMotion technology. The result is reduced fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.

Despite being offered only as a permanent 4WD vehicle, the new technology means the Amarok now returned 37.2mpg and emits 199g/km of CO2.

While the fuel-saving pieces of kit includes stop-start, regenerative braking and low rolling-resistance tyres, all new Amaroks benefit from a revised 2.0-litre TDI engine. That means an increase in power from 161bhp to 178bhp, plus there's a new eight-speed automatic gearbox.

VW has also increased the towing limits for the manual model, up from 2800kg to 3000kg. Automatic models can pull a maximum of 3200kg.

Prices for the new revised Amarok range now start at £18,795 at Scottish VW dealerships, with the range-topping BlueMotion automatic £25,105.
