VW unveils Polo WRC Street 18 | 05 | 2012

EIGHTEEN MONTHS BEFORE it goes on sale in Scotland as a limited model, VW has displayed its upcoming VW Polo R, in the form of the VW Polo WRC Street.

Powered by a 217bhp 2.0-litre turbocharged and supercharged TSI engine, the power-packed Polo delivers 9bhp more than its big brother, the Golf GTi.

Inspired by VW’s entry into the World Rally Championship in 2013 (watch our video of the first test of the Polo WRC car), the Polo R WRC rally car will also lead to a full-blown R version of the Polo road car. It's that model which the 'Street' car gives clear impressions of.

The Street boasts an eye-catching bodykit which includes a boot spoiler and rear diffuser. The car also gets a more aggressive front-end and larger alloys; plus there's R-WRC badges both inside and out.

Meanwhile, the actual Polo R WRC car, which is powered by a 296bhp 1.6TSI engine, is capable of scorching from standstill to 62mph in just 4.1secs.
