UK debut for Porsche 918 Spyder  29 | 06 | 2012

THE NEW PORSCHE 918 Spyder, the company's concept racer which goes on sale in left-hand drive form only in November next year, has made its UK debut at Goodwood.

And if you fancy one, you'd better get your skates on, and have deep pockets: production will be limited to no more than 918 units, and the car will cost from 645,000€ …. excluding VAT.

Powered by a high-revving 4.6-litre V8 unit, the variable all-wheel drive hybrid hypercar also has two electric motors, one on each axle.

Ok, deep breath now: that means — according to Ferrari — the Porsche 918 Spyder generates a mighty 759bhp. Not only that, but the Italian giant claims 94mpg, with just 70g/km CO2.

Get the car on to the nearest racetrack, and you'll be rewarded with a 0-62mph sprint time of just 3.2sec. Driven flat out, the Spyder will hit 199mph, and top speed on electric power alone is 94mph.
