BMW unveils new M6 07 | 03 | 2012

BMW DISPLAYED ITS all-new M6 coupe and convertible at Geneva. Powered by the same engine which is used in the M5, that means peak power of 560bhp from the twin turbocharged 4.4-litre V8, fed to the wheels via BMW's M version of the seven-speed dual clutch gearbox featuring various modes of operation and tactile paddles for changing gear.

The coupe hits 62mph from standstill in just 4.2secs — the cabrio is 0.1s 'slower' — and max speed is electronically limited in the standard cars to 155mph. However, if you opt for the M Driver's Package, you can carry on to an eyewatering 189mph.

As you would expect, there's a high level of standard equipment, including satnav, active seats, internet access, adaptive LED headlights with high beam assistant, night vision, rear camera, leather upholstery with sports seats, a high-end stereo, etc etc etc.

Unfortunately, the stunning-looking carbon ceramic brake package, denoted by gold-painted brake callipers, are a rather pricey option.

Externally the M6 gets more aggressive bumpers and detailing, there's the characteristic quad-pipe exhaust system, a rear diffuser, 'M' gills, 19in alloys as standard — 20in are options — and a contoured carbon fibre roof on the coupe.

BMW's dealerships across Scotland expect to have the new M6 in September. Prices are expected to start around £94,000 for the coupe, rising to £99,000 for the cabrio.
