Audi unveils hot new TT 07 | 03 | 2012

AUDI IS GEARING itself up to go head-to-head with the new Porsche Boxster and upcoming second-generation Porsche Cayman by introducing a 174mph version of the Audi TT RS plus.

Seen here for the first time, the Audi TT RS plus — which will be available in both coupe and roadster stylings — is powered by a tuned version of the Ingolstadt company's turbocharged 2.5-litre five-cylinder direct injection petrol engine.

The same 360bhp powerplant is already used in the TT RS, RS3 Sportback and limited production A1 quattro.

Buyers can choose between six-speed manual and seven-speed S tronic (dual-clutch) gearboxes, and the TT RS plus comes with Audi's renowned four-wheel-drive system as standard.

Fitted with the optional auto box and using the system's 'launch control', the car will hit 62pmh from standstill in just 4.1secs (the manual is 0.2 slower). Top speed is 'restricted' to 174mph.

Externally, the TT RS plus can be differentiated from the car it's based on by carbon fibre door mirror casings, a restyled grille and rear spoiler.

The 19-inch cast alloy wheels finished in black with contrasting red rims are another giveaway that the TT RS plus is just that little bit different!

Audi has still to confirm whether the TT RS plus will be built in right-hand drive, but it's definitely expected that it will.

Currently, in Germany the TT RS plus is priced at €60,650 (around £50,845) for the coupe; the roadster is €63,500 (£53,235).

Audi officially unveiled the car at the Geneva Motor Show, alongside the third-gen Audi A3 and Audi RS4 Avant.
