Ford launches 'sportiest' Focus 30 | 11 | 2011

SCOTS FORD DEALERSHIPS have taken delivery of what the company calls the 'sportiest' Focus in the current range ... at least until the launch of the new ST next summer. The new Focus Zetec S comes with a choice of four engines, and starts at £18,745 (see more photos of the new Focus Zetec S).

The engine range includes the 1.6-litre 180PS EcoBoost petrol which debuts in the UK and features fuel-saving Econetic technologies.

Based on the existing Zetec model, the 'S' adds a full sports styling kit, including unique front and rear spoilers with lower sill extensions and 17in alloy wheels. There's also sports suspension featuring stiffened springs and dampers, aluminium-style sports pedals, rear LED tail lamps and — wait for it — a Ford Power starter button.

Available now in five-door bodystyle, the estate version of the Focus Zetec S will follow in February.

The 180PS EcoBoost turbo-charged petrol engine is good for a top speed of 138mph, reaches 0-62mph in just 7.9sec and emits only 139g/km CO2.

Any Focus Zetec S chosen with this engine, or the 1.6-litre 115PS TDCi, will carry the Econetic Technology badge, as they benefit from auto start-stop, Ford Eco mode, gearshift indicator, active grille shutter and smart regenerative charging.

The 1.6-litre 125PS Ti-VCT petrol and the 2.0-litre 163PS TDCi are also available and can be specified with either manual or PowerShift automatic transmission.

The Focus Zetec S costs £1250 more than the equivalent Zetec derivative: not bad when you consider you're getting an extra £1700 worth of kit.

Ford has also priced the Zetec S and Titanium identically so customers can choose either sport or luxury at the same price point.

Options include the technology-laden Driver Assistance Pack, cruise control with Active Speed Limiter and a Zetec S interior pack featuring Inferno Red partial leather, heated front seats, power driver seat, power rear windows and global closing for £800.
