Range Rover plans Evoque cabrio? 27 | 07 | 2011

EVEN BEFORE the first Range Rover Evoque models have hit the streets — well, officially! — the whisper at the exclusive first drive of the stylish offroader in North Wales was …. there's a convertible in the pipeline!

Now, don't go rushing off to your nearest Range Rover dealer to place an order; the guy's in the dealerships will probably just smile at you quietly questioning your sanity!

    "A convertible Evoque?" …. Nah.

Well, believe it or not, Land Rover's senior management wouldn't deny such a plan exists.

"Well, a convertible Evoque wouldn't be the maddest brand extension, would it," a spokesperson said. "It isn't a totally crazy idea. All I can say is watch this space. We've got lots of ideas for the Evoque."

The creation of a cabrio Evoque would certainly further boost demand for the car in the States, where there is precedent; Nissan has a Murano Cross Cabriolet on sale in America.

If — as is widely expected — the Evoque cabriolet is confirmed, expect it to have a folding fabric roof rather than a tin top, and would be based on the three door model.
