New Leaf on Outer Hebrides 25 | 07 | 2011

THE FIRST NISSAN LEAF has arrived on the island of Uist. After its marathon journey by road transport and ferry, the all-electric car — supplied by Alex F Noble, the Edinburgh based Nissan dealership and sole agents in Scotland for the vehicle — is now safely ensconced in the Outer Hebrides.

The zero exhaust emission car was purchased jointly by Comhairle nan Eilean Siar (Western Isles Council) and the Outer Hebrides Community Planning Partnership (OHCPP) with funding support provided by Transport Scotland .

Alex F Noble arranged the delivery of the vehicle via car transporter from its Straiton base outside Edinburgh, to Uig in Skye. From there, the journey continued by ferry to Uist and then on the road again down to Benbecula where the car was finally united with its new owners.

“One of the Partnership’s key aims is to work towards a carbon positive Outer Hebrides," chairman of the OHCPP, Angus Campbell, said after warmly welcoming the arrival of the Nissan Leaf.

"While this is an ambitious long term goal, small steps, such as the trialling of electric vehicles in the islands, are helping us make significant strides towards it. The Leaf will provide vital data on the potential of green fleets for the Public Sector in the future.”
