Three wheels on my Morgan! 28 | 02 | 2011

MORGAN FANS — and Scotland's only Morgan dealer, Russell Paterson Morgan in Perth — will be licking their lips in anticipation of getting hold of the all-new, relaunched and iconic Threewheeler.

Due to be unveiled officially at the Geneva Motor Show tomorrow, the relaunched Threewheeler — between 1909 and 1953 around 30,000 Threewheelers were manufactured in Malvern — will cost from around £30,000. Powered by an 1800cc V-Twin engine from Harley Davidson, which is linked to a Mazda five-speed gearbox, the Threewheeler develops 100bhp at the rear wheel.

Morgan say the aluminium trike, which weighs just 500kg, is good for a top speed of 115mph and will cover the sprint from standstill to 60mph in an eye-watering 4.5seconds.

While bespoke versions of the Threewheeler will be made available for customers — at an increased cost — following a run of standard cars off the production line, the launch model will be available in a choice of eight exterior colours; all accented by black components in matte or gloss finish.

And not only is there a choice of black or tan leather for the interior, but the open-topped cabin features aircraft-style toggle switches for the various accessories and a “bomb release” style start button.

“The future of road transport in the 21st Century has two big issues, the conservation of precious resources and the protection of our beautiful natural environment," a statement from Morgan said.

"Downsizing and a philosophy of simplicity are ways of dealing with these problems. The Morgan Threewheeler is a proven answer to these problems. In 2011 the Morgan Motor Company is to expand its range and go back to its roots."
