Top award for Scotcars founder 05 | 12 | 2011

    SCOTCARS.CO.UK FOUNDER, Jim McGill, received an early Christmas gift when he became the first winner of the new Peugeot Motorsport Cup at the annual Guild of Motoring Writers' annual dinner in London.

    Surrounded by priceless motorsport memorabilia, the award was presented to the Dundee-born writer by Peugeot communications director Andrew Didlick at the RAC Club in Pall Mall.

    According to the official description, the award — one of the principal trophies in the country — was in "recognition of outstanding achievement by a Guild member in the world of motorsport".

    The comprehensive portfolio of articles included:

    Exclusive interview with IndyCar champ Dario Franchitti;

    Exclusive interview with F1 racer Paul di Resta;

    Exclusive interview with GP3 race winner Lewis Williamson;

    Graphic report of Allan McNish's horror crash at Le Mans 24-Hours;

    Feature on Centenary of Scottish Six Days Trial;

    Comprehensive coverage of RallyScotland, IRC Championship

    Feature covering race debut in Britcar 24Hrs with Mazda.

    "To win the Peugeot Motorsport Cup is a huge honour, and especially in the face of the high level of competition the award traditionally generates," Jim said.

    "I am privileged to be in the position to contribute regularly to such high quality newspaper titles, and I thank them for their support. I would also like to thank the Guild, and Peugeot,

    "In conjunction with my mainstream consumer motoring coverage, to be able to fly the flag for Scottish motorsport at such an exciting time is hugely rewarding and satisfying.

    "Scotcars.co.uk continues to establish itself as the platform for not only being first with consumer news, but also delivering the most comprehensive coverage of motoring and motorsport in Scotland.

    "We enter 2012 buoyed by the recognition of the Guild, Peugeot and the judges. And with — hopefully — the support and backing of the industry, we can take Scotcars.co.uk to the next level."
