Ross Wylie bags Porsche podiumposted in OTHER24 | 04 | 2023

SCOT ROSS WYLIE got his Porsche Carrera Cup GB campaign off to a flying start at Donington Park. Wylie, from Thornhill near Dumfries, swept his Glenturret Porsche Carrera Cup car to third place in the Pro-Am category in the opening race and fourth in the second: he was denied a second podium by a mere 0.647secs.

Wylie topped the Pro-Am times in qualifying at the halfway stage but had to be content with the second fastest time in the 30mins session, 10th overall around the 2-mile Leicestershire venue.

He overcame very tricky conditions due to rain to claim a brilliant Pro-Am podium placing in Race 1, Wylie consistently running inside his class top-three throughout the 24-lap, 30mins race. Even worse conditions prevailed in the second race which saw wylie just miss out on a second podium as he set a searing pace in the second half of the race, including setting the fastest Pro-Am race lap.

Wylie, who is also supported by local Thornhill sponsors AL-2 Teknik UK and PyroDry, lies fourth in the class standings, just two points behind the second placed driver. He continues his Porsche campaign at Brands Hatch next month, but returns to GT Cup action next weekend having scored two GTO podiums in the opening rounds at the wheel of co-driver Paul Bailey’s Brabham BT62 Competition earlier this month.

“I’m moderately happy with what was achieved in The Glenturret Porsche in what were very difficult and demanding conditions for both races,” the 31-year-old said.

“We had mixed and difficult conditions for both races. The track was really greasy for Race 1, very slippery. I had some good battles and was pleased with a podium finish.

“The heavens opened for the second race and I came close to achieving another podium. I was catching the top-three Pro-Am guys over the last 10 laps once the tyre pressures came up and also set the fastest Pro-Am race lap. I’m hoping we’ll be even more competitive for the next races at Brands.”
