Bogie closes in on fifth titleposted in RSCOT03 | 10 | 2013

SCOTS RALLY ACE David Bogie (pictured) bids to seal an unprecedented fifth successive Scottish Rally Championship at this weekend's Colin McRae Rally in Aberfeldy.

The 24-year-old from Dumfries, was denied the title last time out in the Merrick Stage when his Ford Focus WRC suffered a puncture and spin in the final stage.

“The Merrick result was obviously a big disappointment," Bogie, a past winner of the McRae Rally, said today. "But I love the McRae, and we're going into the event determined to get the job done."

Bogie was pipped to the Merrick win by Euan Thorburn, in another Focus WRC, and the Duns driver is determined to take the title battle to the final round.

“Our aim is simple,to keep the championship away from David as long as possible," Thorburn, who won the McRae Stages in 2011, stated simply.

"Like David, we know what we have to do tomorrow, and that's win the event. Do that and we have every possibility of taking the title to the final event."

Bogie and Thorburn will start behind last year's McRae winner Quintin Milne, who tackles this year's event in his Mitsubishi Evo IX.

The Banchory-based driver and Aberdeen navigator, Martin Forrest, secured their third podium spot of the season on the Merrick, and sit second in the championship, 12 points behind Bogie.
