Moffat commits to BTCC '14posted in BTCC06 | 11 | 2013

DALKEITH-BASED Aiden Moffat Racing will mount a full-scale assault on the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship next year.

Aiden Moffat — who became the youngest ever BTCC racer in August when he made his championship debut at Knockhill aged 16 years 10 months and 28 days — is set to race for the family-run squad after making an impression in the tintop series. Rick Howson joins as team co-ordinator with other key staff due to be announced shortly.

The team’s plans have been bolstered following the outright purchase of the RML-built NGTC Chevrolet Cruze, plus all its assets and spares. The car was previously owned and raced by Andy Neate in 2013.

"We have examined the car and evaluated it to the finest degree,” team owner Bob Moffat said today. “It is clear this can be a very competitive car with further development from the team and Aiden.

"We think it is the ideal base for the team and that Aiden will show people what he is all about next year."

Moffat already has experience of racing — albeit briefly — in a Cruze. He drove the Finesse Motorsport S2000 Chevrolet Cruze at Knockhill, but the outing was peppered with technical and unreliability problems.

He then made his NGTC debut, driving a VW Passat with Team Hard, in the final two rounds of the season, scoring championship points at both Silverstone and Brands Hatch.

Now the 17-year-old is focussing even further up the field.

"There is no point me turning up to run at the rear of the field," the youngster said. "I only race to win, and I hope to do that at some point in the Cruze — it is a fantastic car."
