McNish denied victory at Spaposted in LMANS05 | 05 | 2013

SCOT ALLAN MCNISH was denied victory in the second round of the World Endurance Championship at Spa-Francorchamps, after struggling with a lack of grip in his Audi.

The 43-year-old from Dumfries, winner of the opening round at Silverstone last month, brought his hybrid diesel Audi R18 e-tron quattro home second in Belguim, behind the 'sister' car of Switzerland's Marcel Fässler.

"I was a little disappointed with my car in the race," a frustrated McNish," who was partnered in the six-hour race by Dane Tom Kristensen, and Frenchman Loïc Duval, admitted today.

"The car didn’t have the consistent performance it should have had. It certainly wasn’t like we had at Silverstone, and so we are going to have to look at where the losses were.

“It seemed we lost grip and didn’t have the pure downforce grip the winning Audi had, so we have to understand what happened going forward."

McNish heads to the next round, the famous Le Mans 24-Hours in June, second in the championship, one point behind Fässler, and his team-mates André Lotterer and Benoît Tréluyer.

"From a championship point of view, we are right in the fight," McNish continued. "Ok, we dropped to second, but we're just one point behind the ‘sister’ car’s drivers with a first and a second each: they’re only ahead due to them claiming pole-position here at Spa.

“So it’s set itself up nicely for Le Mans where you can be certain Loïc, Tom and I are going to be going for the centre spot on the podium!”
