Shedden bags first BTCC winposted in BTCC21 | 04 | 2013

FIFER GORDON SHEDDEN (pictured) kickstarted his British Touring Car Championship campaign with a win and two podiums in the latest triple-header at Donington Park.

The 33-year-old defending champ from Dalgety Bay, who endured a miserable opening weekend three weeks ago at Brands Hatch, was in dazzling form in his Honda Racing Civic.

Starting the opening race from pole position, he led from start-to-finish ahead of Andrew Jordan, with Shedden's team-mate Matt Neal third.

In the second race, Jordan took advantage of the fact Shedden was lumbered with an extra 45kg of 'success' ballast to win. With the Scot third, championship leader Jason Plato took second in his MG.

The final reverse grid race saw Shedden storm through the field from eighth to finish second, behind the BMW of former Knockhill race instructor Colin Turkington.

"Overall, a pretty good weekend," admitted Shedden, who entered the weekend 38pts behind Plato, but now heads to the next race at Thruxton trailing by just 20pts.

"Winning race one was crucial, because after that the success ballast puts you at a disadvantage.

"But to get another two podiums and close the gap considerably on Plato was exactly what we wanted from this weekend."
