Williamson retains GP3 seatposted in MSPOR26 | 07 | 2012

SCOT LEWIS WILLIAMSON is to rejoin the Status Grand Prix line-up for this weekend’s GP3 Series race. The latest round supports the Formula One Hungarian Grand Prix.

The 22-year-old from Golspie, a winner in GP3 at Silverstone last season, made his comeback at Hockenheim seven days ago.

But the Scot's return was ruined by the variable weather conditions in Germany which left Williamson with no time to adjust to the car.

"We had wet sessions, dry sessions and wet races," the Scot, backed by the Highland Arena private consortium, said today.

"That combination made it virtually impossible to set the car up for the race, especially having not been in a GP3 car since the end of 2011.

"But it’s good to get back in the car this weekend. I raced in Hungary with MW Arden last year and we had a very good pre-season test, where we fastest in some of the sessions.

"I’m refocusing for this weekend and hopefully I’ll be able to get more time on the track. I’m going to making a big push to get onto the podium.”

Williamson will again partner team-mates Marlon Stockinger and Alice Powell in this weekend's double-header.

And the Scot's presence in the team has been welcomed by Status GP commercial director Tim Scott.

“We’re really delighted to have Lewis back with us again at the Hungaroring this weekend," Scott said.

"He had an unfortunate time at Hockenheim due to circumstances outside his control.

"So we’re looking forward to him putting in some good performances in Hungary and getting the results his abilities deserve.”

Free practice at the Hungaroring takes place on Friday at 08h30, with qualifying on Saturday at 09h45, race one on Saturday at 17h20 and race two on Sunday at 09h25.
