Porsche Supercup debut for Roryposted in POR05 | 07 | 2012

FIFER RORY BUTCHER will rub shoulders with the Formula One glitterati this weekend when he makes his debut in the Porsche Supercup at Silverstone.

The 25-year-old from Kirkcaldy, who won both races in the Porsche Carrera Cup at Croft a fortnight ago, steps up to the highest level of Porsche competition to race immediately before the start of the British Grand Prix on Sunday.

"It's going to be a very tough weekend," Butcher, who will again pilot his Celtic Speed Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car, said today.

"We have to make a number of significant changes to the car for the Supercup race, including fitting a different exhaust and carbon brakes.

"Then I've got only a 45-minute free practice session on Friday evening to get used to the new car, and learn the circuit, then it's straight into qualifying on Saturday. So no pressure.

"These are the best Porsche racers in the world, and the level of competition is intense.

"Believe me, it's a privilege just to be asked to take part in the race, but I'm under no illusions just how difficult it's going to be to beat these guys.

"If there's one crumb of comfort, it's that the weather's going to be horrible and wet, which should at least mix it up.

"It's one of these race weekends where I've got nothing to lose, but I'll be doing everything I can to get the best result I can on what, essentially, is a world stage."
