Butcher eyes Knockhill podiumsposted in POR24 | 08 | 2012

FIFER RORY BUTCHER and his Celtic Speed team are both on home soil this weekend when they tackle the Porsche Carrera Cup double-header at Knockhill.

The series is acknowledged as being the fastest sportscar championship in the UK and is part of the British Touring Car Championship support package.

And the 25-year-old from Kirkcaldy, who works at the Fife circuit during the week, admits he's looking forward to giving the home support something to cheer.

"This is a massive weekend for everyone at Knockhill," Scotcars-backed Butcher explained today, "and it's a great weekend for everyone at Celtic Speed.

"It's the biggest race weekend of the year for us. Not only are all my family and friends at the circuit, but it's an opportunity for all our fantastic sponsors to see the team and car in action."

And Butcher, already a double winner in the highly competitive Porsche championship with Scotland's largest sportscar team, knows home advantage will count for nothing.

"Traditionally I've gone pretty well at Knockhill," he smiled. "But such is the intensity of the competition in the Porsche Carrera Cup this year that all the leading guys will be fast this weekend.

"Hopefully I'll manage a couple of podiums, which would be fantastic and would give my title hopes a boost after the disappointment of Snetterton.

"The one thing I know though is the team will give me everything to make sure I have the best possible chance of a result at Knockhill.

"As we know, it's a tight and very demanding circuit, but if I can qualify well and stay out of trouble, then hopefully I can deliver the results."

In addition to the BTCC and Porsche Carrera Cup action, the Celtic Speed Scottish Mini Cooper Cup will run two rounds of the series at Knockhill this weekend.
