ONE OF THE SPECTATORS seriously injured in the crash on the opening stage of the Coltel Granite City Rally on Saturday has said he hopes the accident has not put anyone off the sport.

Four men were injured when a rally car struck a group who were trying to aid another car which had come off the road on the opening stage of the Coltel Granite City Rally at Durris, outside Aberdeen, on Saturday.

One man, in his 50s is now described as being "critical but stable" after undergoing surgery.

Speaking on a rally forum, one of the injured men, David Tait, said: "Terrible accident, but that's all it was, just an accident. I really do hope that both crews are ok and it doesn't put them off the sport."

He says both of his legs have been broken and he has had pins put in each.

Another injured party, he names as Joe, also had both legs broken, along with his pelvis. The third man, Jonny, suffered a broken leg.

Two of the spectators who suffered serious leg injuries are expected to leave hospital towards the end of the week. The most seriously injured spectator will remain in hospital in Aberdeen for a longer period.

The event was won by triple Scottish rally champ David Bogie, who claimed his third win of the season in his Mitsubishi Evo IX.
