Front row start for Butcherposted in POR28 | 04 | 2012

FIFER RORY BUTCHER will start on the front row of the grid for the first time tomorrow in the Porsche Carrera Cup double-header at Thruxton.

The 25-year-old from Kirkcaldy, team leader for the Aberdeen-based Celtic Speed, splashed his way to the top of the timesheets with only minutes of qualifying remaining.

In torrential rain, the Scot's Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car was finally pipped only in the final seconds by championship leader Michael Meadows.

"I'm chuffed with that," the young Scot, who lines up sixth in today's other race and posted a fastest lap of 1min 20.436secs on the 2.3-mile Hampshire circuit, admitted today.

"To be on the front row of the grid in Britain's most competitive sportscar championship is brilliant. Now we have to make sure we carry this pace into the race."

Edinburgh's Oly Mortimer will start the day's second race from 10th on the grid, one place ahead of Aberdeen's Glynn Geddie, with Glasgow's Derek Pierce back in 13th.
