Double BTCC success for Sheddenposted in BTCC15 | 04 | 2012

FIFER GORDON SHEDDEN left Donington today with two wins and a second place after a dramatic day of action in the British Touring Car Championship.

After following the Ford of Mat Jackson home in second lace in the opener, Shedden (pictured today) led home a Honda 1-2, finishing 1.241secs ahead of team-mate Matt Neal.

But the real drama was saved for the day's third and final race.

The 33-year-old from Dalgety Bay crossed the line in third place, after being being pushed off the track at the final corner by Jason Plato. The MG finished second.

However, the stewards subsequently discovered Jackson's Ford had exceeded the permitted turbo boost limits during the final event, and disqualified him from the results.

That initially handed the win to Plato: but the stewards weren't finished.

Having watched the double champ bump and barge Shedden's Honda for more than 100m down the final straight, they added to second to Plato's finishing time. The penalty dropped him to second, behind the Fifer.

Shedden though, who was furious after the race with the Englishman's aggressive actions, felt Plato's penalty should have been even harder.

"He was pushing me for 100 metres before the braking zone, which is clear on the TV pictures," the Scot explained, "and having been hit it was my prerogative to choose where I braked.

"I was defending off line and so of course I had to brake earlier, but that was the latest point I could brake and still make the corner. I wasn't weaving about and it's up to him to find a clean way past.

"I think he should have been excluded from the results. He hit me so hard I could quite easily have spun into the wall or into the gravel and not finished.

"It's totally unacceptable, but it's not going to be made into a feud between us: it's been dealt with now and we've got to go racing."
