Shedden gets Honda seat for 2012posted in BTCC14 | 09 | 2011

FIFER GORDON SHEDDEN, current leader in the British Touring Car Championship, will tomorrow be confirmed by Honda as one of its two drivers for 2012.

The 32-year-old from Dalgety Bay, who won last time out at Knockhill 10 days ago, will again partner former BTCC champ and current team-mate Matt Neal.

Shedden heads to Rockingham in Northamptonshire for this weekend's triple-header leading the title race by just one point from Neal.

But such has been the duo's domination this year — Shedden has won four races, Neal five — that they are 23 points ahead of nearest rival, Mat Jackson's Ford.

The duo are also on course to defend the coveted Constructor/Manufacturer and HiQ Teams championships which Honda Racing won last year.

While understandably Shedden was unable to comment today, he did admit at Knockhill that he would be keen to extend his partnership with Honda Racing.

"There's no question Honda is the best team on the BTCC grid, and there's absolutely nowhere else I would rather be," Shedden, whose victory at the Fife circuit saw him overtake former champ, Galashiels' John Cleland, as the Scot with most BTCC wins.

"We've shown this year how fast the team and the Honda Civic is, and I'd love to be onboard when we enter 2012 with our new car."

Honda, which unveiled its new Civic in Frankfurt earlier this week, is already building the new car to the BTCC’s latest Next Generation Touring Car regulations for its assault on the series next season.
