Rory looking for home successposted in POR02 | 09 | 2011

SCOTLAND'S LEADING SPORTSCAR team, St Cyrus-based Celtic Speed, heads to Knockhill in Fife this weekend for what, in many ways, is their biggest meeting of the year; the home double-header in the Porsche Carrera Cup.

"Knockhill is always a big event for us," team boss Tommy Dreelan explained. "It's really the only occasion in the year when we get to race in front of all our home supporters, family, friends and colleagues.

"There's always a big following behind us at Knockhill and, with our own Rory Butcher — son, of course, of Knockhill owner Derek — mixing it at the front of the field, we're sure to have an even larger backing this weekend."

While both Tommy, and Edinburgh's George Brewster will be battling for top honours in the highly competitive Pro-Am2 class, Butcher is aiming for at least a couple of podiums in the Pro-Am1 category. And the 24-year-old from Kirkcaldy has a history of good performances at the circuit behind the wheel of a Porsche 911.

Shedden fired up for Knockhill BTCC assault

"I twice finished fifth in guest appearances in the Porsche Carrera Cup a few years ago at Knockhill," Butcher explained, "and I think it's fair to say I know my way around the circuit.

"But I'm going to try and not put myself under any extra pressure this weekend by saying I'm going to do this, or that.

"I know I have the pace to be competitive at any circuit in the country, and hopefully I can stay out of trouble this weekend and just deliver the best results I can for Celtic Speed."

And Butcher was quick to pay tribute to the support he's enjoyed from his Celtic Speed team boss.

"Quite honestly, without Tommy's involvement and support over the past five years I wouldn't be where I am in sportscars today," he admitted. "He's been incredible and really put a lot into it for me this year. Hopefully I can pay him back with results."
